The9 Limited is an online game developer and operator in China. It offers online games, including massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs), massively multiplayer online first-person shooter games (MMOFPSs), and games for the web, social media, TV, and mobile platforms. As of December 31, 2012, the company owned or had exclusive licenses to operate SUN, Winning Goal, Q Jiang San Guo, Winning Dunk, Re Xue Wu Shuang, Firefall, Planetside 2, Qiji 2, and web game platform 9c.com. It also provides game operating support, training and advertisement, and short message services, and operates TV and mobile game platforms. Incorporated in August 1999 as GameNow.net Limited, the company changed its name to The9 Limited in February 2004. The9 completed its initial offering on the New York Stock Exchange on December 15, 2004. With over 14 million registered users, it competes with Shanda Games Limited, NetEase, Changyou.com Limited, Perfect World, Co. Ltd., Giant Interactive Group, and Tencent.
